Wandering lonely as cloud.... though too early for daffodils

Just went out for a brisk walk to blow away the cobwebs.
Crossed the Rothay at White Moss bridge, up through woods, and right up to Loughrigg Terrace. Nearly knocked over by gale force westerly wind. It was coming from Easedale, called " the black quarter" by Dorothy Wordsworth, as the west wind often brings rain - you see it sweeping down the valley to Grasmere.
Anyway, today it looked lovely- little pink clouds, a hint of sunset.
But- the wind was so fierce I turned round and went the other way, down past Rydal Caves, to Pelter Bridge, back via Rydal Woods and Rydal shore.
Good hour's walk, cobwebs gone. Saw the usual sheep, but not one, solitary, single person. This is one of the most popular paths- I've never had it to myself before. Odd!
Come to the Lakes! ( not White Moss just now, we're closed till March)

Doing the Loughrigg Loop aka the Woodman's walk

I've just done my favourite short walk for the first time since the end of December. Last time we walked it the snow was packed and icy- not much fun. Today, although it was a bit grey and gloomy, it was a real pleasure- and I only saw 2 other people and a dog.
It takes me about an hour or a bit  longer if I stop and admire the views- and who could resist?

I leave White Moss House, cross the road and head through White Moss meadow ,( mind the cows)  up through Penny Rock Woods, then down and across the River Rothay at Grasmere weir. Then along Grasmere shore and up the path towards the Red Bank road and the old NT house ( hello to Charlie the spaniel who lives there!)
Left up through Deer Bolt woods, down Loughrigg terrace( take a seat , enjoy the view), then towards the end of the terrace, take the little right fork, over the little rise, and you can see Rydal Water.

Head towards the Rydal Caves, then turn back left on the lower path , go through the kissing gate at White Moss woods, back down to White Moss common, over the bridge and home.

New Office supervisor at White Moss House, Grasmere

Come on Sue, stop messing about on Twitter and Squidoo and get on with some work!

I took this from my office window this morning. I always used to think I had a bit of a dull outlook from my office at White Moss House, Grasmere, but in this snow I've begun to appreciate my visitors more. This morning a deer passed by ( too quickly to photgraph) and yesterday my local pheasant visited ( no good photo yet- watch this space)
Actually, I HAVE done some work- if you click on the website you'll see I have updated the White Moss House Special Offers page. Also, if you want to book for a White Moss House Dining Club Weekend in 2010, move quickly- the first one is full already.

By the way, the sheep is actually in our back garden, but no matter how many times we chase them out, even if the farmer takes them away in his landrover, they always find their way back!
